Seeing the bad acting of the Arroyo's in the idiot box just makes me love them- somehow. After evading justice, giving the go signal to extrajudicial killing, breeding killers like the Ampatuans and Palparan, blatant corruption for a decade now, GMA, her husband, and congressman son still has the nerve to act as victims of injustice! After cheating her way to being president for a decade, to get away with this is a simple task.
All local network news early evening yesterday shows a GMA (looking like Hannibal Lectre in Silence of the Lambs) complete with braces and in a wheelchair, prevented by immigration officials from boarding the plane. Looking like a helpless patient(welll she looks more like a psychopath to me), opinions were divided in the media, politicians, and ordinary people. The Arroyo's knowing that we are a soap opera loving nation staged a well crafted show. Their lawyers may well be versed of the process of a TRO and cooordination, knows that they will be prevented from boarding the plane, but still continued to go to the airport to get sympathy and may use the scene as a bulllet to request for asylum. Though acting was lame but still created a scene.
There are opinions that individual rights is primary and her right to seek treatment is valid. To an ordinary citizen I would agree, but not with her case. Individual rights as primary as to the rights of the majority should not apply to persons in power! They should consider how someone like GMA can manipulate, corrupt and abuse institutions, data, political power, mass media and even the justice system! GMA knows too well her political map, and like her masters geo-political expertise applied to keep the world American dominated, she made sure before the unavoidable stepping down as president of the Philippines, she made sure her cards are all well and laid in place. And so is the reason why even the SC seems to also do the cha-cha with GMA in rushing the TRO without hearing the complete argument from both sides. Its not a matter of illlness; our doctors have assured that she can be treated in the Philippines, medical tourism is a boom here because aside from being a haven for tourist spots, relative cheapness of medical cost, we also have competitive, expert doctors and equipments in our finest hospitals.
If we apply to GMA the same rule as how we should treat an ordinary citizen, then we should expect more politicians, people in power here in our country to evade trial and get away with earthshaking crime against the people. Anyway what's new? Though failure will cause the crumbling of the "matuwid na daan" posturing of PNoy faster, and the illusion will dissolve as fast as sugar disssolves in water.This tough posturing of DOJ and PNoy does not guarantee justice against the Arroyo's, they should be even criticized for the slow pace of justice. Exposing the more likely reason for even after more than a year in power still the case against GMA is stilll in the budding- co-opting, and compromised arrangements of the two factions.
